Nongroup contracts are marketed statewide for the first time.

With incomes rising, Blue Shield establishes three income ceilings: $2,500, $5,000 and $7,500. The ceilings are used to calculate reimbursement levels and subscription rates.
1959
Michigan Blue Cross and Michigan Blue Shield develops and markets contracts for individual senior citizens not eligible for group coverage.
