New Blues Health Initiatives

Healthy Advantage Rewards

In January 2012, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan launched a new program to encourage our Medicare Plus Blue PPOSM individual and group members to stay healthy. The Healthy Advantage Rewards program rewards members for taking proactive steps to mantain healthy lifestyles.

Members who take action on any of the program’s seven initiatives receive an Entertainment® coupon booklet with discounts and coupons to local merchants, based on the member’s ZIP code, as well as to national retailers. Members with only Prescription BlueSM coverage are not eligible to participate.

The Healthy Advantage Rewards initiatives include:

The program also recognizes physicians and physician groups for their efforts in helping Blue Cross achieve its goals in improving member health and increasing our scores for the Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set®**. We encourage each Medicare Plus Blue PPO member to make an appointment with his or her primary care physician for a health assessment.

* BCBSM will reimburse the physician $40 for completing and returning this assessment. Physicians can mail a paper form or complete the form electronically through our new Medicare Advantage Health e-BlueSM tool.

BCBSM's new Medicare Advantage tool, Health e-BlueSM

This spring, we will launch our new Medicare Advantage Health e-Blue tool. Closely tied to the Healthy Advantage Rewards program, Health e-Blue provides clinical support to health care providers by tracking members’ health information. It will offer Medicare Advantage PPO providers consistent and timely health registry, utilization and pharmacy data for Medicare Plus Blue PPO members.

We routinely ask health care providers for data. In the past, this required providers to complete paper forms and send them to us. With Health e-Blue, information such as chart reviews and diagnostic codes can be conveniently uploaded electronically.

We encourage eligible providers to sign up now for access to Health e-Blue. It is only available to the following provider specialties:

  • Adult medicine
  • Family medicine
  • Family practice
  • General practice
  • Geriatric medicine
  • Health clinic practice
  • Internal medicine
  • Nurse practitioner
  • Obstetrics and gynecology
  • Osteopathy
  • Physician assistant

Registration for Health e-Blue is limited to provider specialties to which members are attributed. Once registered, providers can access information about members who are attributed to them. Attribution is a process in which a BCBSM member is assigned to only one physician based on the member’s medical claims activity reflecting a primary relationship.

How to register for Health e-Blue

  1. Because Health e-Blue is a Web-based tool, it will be available through Provider Secured Services. If you haven’t already, register for Provider Secured Services at bcbsm.com.

  2. Providers who are eligible to use Health e-Blue must complete the Health e-Blue Application and the Use and Protection Agreement (PDF)

Providers must complete both the Health e-Blue Application and the Use and Protection Agreement to access Health e-Blue. This documentation ensures that our Medicare Advantage members' protected health information is shared only with the appropriate health care providers.

All fields must be completed on the Application and Use and Protection Agreement. Otherwise, the forms will be returned and access will be delayed. Note: If you have current Health e-Blue access through Blue Care Network, you do not have to complete another Health e-Blue Application and Use and Protection Agreement to access BCBSM's Health e-Blue tool.
