January – February 2021
MAT waiver training opportunities available in 2021
According to the American Medical Association, more than 40 states have reported increases in opioid-related mortality since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and its partners remain committed to expanding access to medication-assisted treatment for opioid use disorder during these challenging times.
Health care providers must complete an eight-hour training course to qualify for a Drug Enforcement Administration waiver to prescribe and dispense buprenorphine as required by the Drug Addiction Treatment Act of 2000. Training opportunities, certified by the American Society of Addiction Medicine, are available that satisfy the DEA waiver requirements. Training covers treating opioid use disorder using interactive, case-based learning and evidence-based practices.
Zoom-based MAT waiver training courses will be offered to health care providers from January through March 2021, with in-person training anticipated to resume later in the year.
