In brief: COVID-19 information, pharmacy benefit management, new provider portal
Helping Michigan reach COVID-19 vaccination goals
You can help the state of Michigan reach the benchmark of vaccinating 70% or more of Michiganders, age 16 and older, in the fight against COVID-19. Here’s how:
- Reach out to your patients to encourage them to get a COVID-19 vaccine.
- Help patients who were vaccinated outside Michigan get their vaccines counted.

Cost-share waivers for COVID-19 treatment extended through September
As you may have read in an April Record article, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and Blue Care Network have extended cost-share waivers through Sept. 30 for members in Blue Cross and BCN health plans who are diagnosed and treated for COVID-19. This extension of this temporary benefit, which was set to expire on March 31, ensures members won’t pay out-of-pocket costs — copays, deductibles or coinsurance — for the medical care and pharmacy costs associated with COVID-19.
Blue Cross, BCN and OptumRx to work together on pharmacy benefit management services
Beginning next year, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and Blue Care Network will be working with OptumRx, a leading pharmacy care services provider, to give members, health care providers and employers an improved pharmacy experience.
This effort is expected to drive better health outcomes and lower pharmacy costs. It will take effect Jan. 1, 2022, for commercial individual and group members, and Jan. 1, 2023, for Medicare Advantage individual and group members. Blue Cross will continue to work closely with its current pharmacy benefit provider, Express Scripts Inc., to ensure a seamless transition.

We’ll begin transition to new provider portal later this year
As you may have read in previous issues of The Record, we’re developing a new, secure provider portal called Availity. We’re working to have some Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and Blue Care Network content available in Availity later this year, but a full transition is expected to take place in 2022. To help support the change, we plan to have both our current portal (Provider Secured Services on bcbsm.com, including web-DENIS) and Availity functioning with Blue Cross and BCN information for a period of time during the transition.
If you have questions about the move to Availity, check our Frequently asked questions document first. If your question isn’t already answered there, submit your question to ProviderPortalQuestions@bcbsm.com. |
