Fall 2022 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade: Michigan hospitals decline overall from spring 2022 grades In the fall 2022 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade,* seven Michigan hospitals improved their grades from the spring 2022 grades but, overall, the grades declined for most Michigan hospitals. Michigan fell from a ranking of fifth nationally in spring 2022, to a ranking of 19 for fall 2022. The fall 2022 release marked the 10th anniversary of the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade. With the Leapfrog Hospital Survey, grades A through F are assigned to nearly 3,000 general acute-care hospitals across the nation twice annually (fall and spring), representing a hospital’s overall performance in keeping patients safe from preventable harm and medical errors. Hospitals self-report a portion of the data and Leapfrog gathers publicly available data, but not all hospitals participate in self-reporting. How Michigan hospitals fared From the spring 2022 grades to the fall 2022 grades, two hospitals improved from a B to an A, four hospitals moved from a C to a B and one hospital went from a D to a C. Following are the spring and fall grades for Michigan hospitals:
The performance of hospitals with an A grade fell nationwide. While Michigan hospital performance declined, Michigan has more hospitals with the A and B rating (68%) than the country overall, which has a national performance of 57%.
