How Do I Choose a Primary Care Physician for My Medicare Advantage HMO Plan?

A primary care physician, or PCP, is your main doctor who coordinates all your care. When you have an HMO plan, they refer you to specialists and other types of doctors as necessary.

If you're a Blue Care Network of Michigan member with a BCN AdvantageSM HMO or HMO-POS plan, you have to select a PCP to coordinate your care.

How to select your PCP

You can choose or change your primary care physician at any time by logging into your online member account.

We first ask you to choose one when you sign up for one of our BCN Advantage plans. Be prepared ahead of time by doing some research by searching Find a Doctor.

You'll want to make sure your primary care physician:

  • Participates in your plan's network
  • Accepts new patients
  • Speaks your language
  • Works at a convenient location
  • Partners with your preferred hospitals or specialists

If you're already a BCN Advantage member

If you didn't select a primary care physician when you first bought your plan, or want to change your current PCP, it's easy to do online.
