What is Personalized Medicine?
Every person processes medications in their own way. Their bodies may break down medications too slowly or too quickly, which can result in side effects or no effect at all.
Blue Cross Personalized MedicineSM can help your employees' health providers understand how they will respond to certain medications. It can target costly conditions, decrease medical claims and help reduce employee absences due to these medical conditions. The program is provided at no cost to you or your employees.
For the program, Blue Care Network has partnered with OneOme®, a precision medicine company co-founded by the Mayo Clinic. They can administer a test to give providers the genetic insights to identify a medication that can work best for your employee.
How Personalized Medicine works

- Your qualifying employees will receive notification that they've been selected for the program. They will then be able to register for an account and request a test kit through OneOme's website, which will be live on Jan. 1, 2023.

- OneOme will mail the employee a test kit. They will use the test kit to take a cheek swab and mail it to OneOme's lab for processing.
- 3.
- OneOme will send your employee and their health care provider the results. The employee and their provider will then review the results and discuss whether a change in dosage or medication is right for them.
